Pursue your passions
Most of you who know me know that I LOVE
collegiate athletics. Football, basketball, and hockey-it really doesn't
matter.
I love it all!
Having had a son who played college
golf, I enjoyed watching the competitive fire these athletes have within them.
Attending his matches were some of the highlights of my life.
The camaraderie and competition were a
thrill to behold. Now that he has graduated and my younger son is at the University of Kentucky, I have become a huge UK
Basketball nut.
The Wildcats are phenomenal this year,
but I haven't been able to score any tickets yet. Darn! Television
will have to do.
Among the other activities I enjoy is
fly fishing. As Tamara likes to point out until recently it would have
taken the luck of the Irish and half a stick of dynamite for me to catch
one! LOL!
The last couple times out I started
getting the knack of it and landed a few "beauties" and I even had pictures to
prove it. The rest of my free time is spent with family and
friends-sharing a few laughs and fun times together.

Dear Kurt,
We have arrived! Well, we mean arrived in our upgraded online communications where we will be connecting with you in a much more personalized way.
And, we are very excited about that!
Welcome to our PREMIERE issue of our monthly lifestyle ezine. Ezine means "electronic magazine" in web 2.0 language, which is something our team has been learning a great deal about lately from our online marketing coach. This ezine and our Facebook fan page are several enhancements we are rolling out this year as part of our plans to connect with you on a more personal level.
Speaking of fan page, do you really know how powerful Facebook and Social Media is?
Here's the
secret. It's all about the human need to connect; to build the know, like and
trust factor in all relationships - personally and professionally.
How?
By being authentic.
We have learned the REAL purpose to Facebook and Twitter is about giving - inspiration, contacts,
ideas, and more to enhance people's lives. That's the reason we are
here, right? To enhance people's lives?
Therefore, we invite you to
become a "fan" of our Facebook page (we are really members but Facebook calls it a
fan) so we can make a difference in the lives of others (click on the FB logo). See, we will be
launching our annual Smiles
for Life fundraising campaign in March and our Facebook page will be
instrumental in raising the awareness and dollars for Garth Brooks youth
foundation and our local Bridge Avenue School.
The Smiles Begin Here team is so grateful to have you in our online community and dental home. We are pleased to offer this monthly communication where you will be informed, inspired, and intrigued through our articles, links, photos, videos and more!
So with that, I encourage you join us in learning more about how we live life in and outside of the office, perform dentistry for your well being, enjoy travel, play, and spend quality time with friends and family. See, as we continue to build a family of extraordinary patients who we cherish deeply, we are also passionate about inspiring you to live a quality life.
Let's make this a remarkable year together.
Much gratitude,
Kurt Thomas, D.D.S.

We are listening...
"Several months ago I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Thomas for
symptoms of horrible headaches, grinding, and lock jaw, which I found out was
caused by a misaligned bite. Dr. Thomas
diagnosed my problem and I followed his recommendations to a "T". I can now say that my symptoms have decreased
considerably and I can actually feel the difference in my bite. Thanks Dr. T and Vicki for all your hard
work! I know my case wasn't easy"

Thanks Mom! Education keeps on giving...
Having a wonderful mother who taught
school for more than 20 years must have rubbed off on me; as I find myself
picking up the baton where she left off. I'm now involved in my
third stint as an instructor after having taught at CWRU School of Dentistry
and Tri-C Dental Hygiene Clinic for several years. I currently
assist my fellow dentists who have a desire to learn the fine art of
equilibration or "bite adjustment".
Working alongside my brilliant colleague,
Dr. Karl Hegyi (pictured) - who pioneered much of the work involved with DATA appliances
and bite adjustment, has allowed me to focus on improving a patient's bite
while reducing muscle pain and headaches associated with grinding and clenching
of their teeth. It is difficult and precise work, but the results are
often dramatic and gratifying. Watching a student's reaction when the
"lights go on" and they "get it" is as much fun for me as it is for
them.

Giving Back
Each year we
partner with "Smiles for Life" and the "Garth Brooks Foundation for Children"
to raise money for children's charities. This year we're adding The Bridge
Avenue School (TBAS) to the mix. As many of you know, TBAS was
founded in an effort to educate students who are being left behind in the
public school system. Using intense one-on-one tutoring, devoted teaching, and
lots of love, these children are experiencing classroom success for the first
time.
In order to
benefit The Garth Brooks Foundation and The Bridge Avenue School, we have
reduced the cost of teeth whitening by $150 and ALL of the proceeds go to the
aforementioned charities. This offer is in effect from March 1, 2010
until June 30, 2010. Don't miss this tremendous opportunity to have
beautiful white teeth AND benefit fantastic children's charities!

Ask the Dentist
Q: How do digital x-rays differ from the old x-rays taken with
film?
A: The short answer is the amount of radiation needed. Many of our patients have expressed concern
about x-rays. Responding to those
concerns, we invested in state of the art digital x-rays which reduce the
amount of radiation needed up to 90%!
Our new Platinum Sensors are unbelievably sensitive to readiation so
much less is needed.
